"Uncle Russ," as he was affectionately known, came to Regis, after a quarter of a century to pursue chemical engineering research. He taught the applied side of physical science, mostly chemistry, as used in United States industries. Fathers Spahn and Engler, Sisters Assumpta, Carmelita, Edith and Georgianne and the teachers Good and Palumbo are just a few of the staff members he remembers with great fondness. Russ was the first teacher to take a group of students to Chicago to view the Museum of Science and Industry. He could write a book of anecdotes covering his experiences, both at Regis and elsewhere. Since moving on from Regis, Russ has become a member of the Fifty-year Club at Coe College and the American Chemical Society has given him a fifty-year pin. In addition, he was chairman of the Senior Bureau of the Cedar Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce.
