As a 2006 graduate of Xavier High School, Sara Clancy was an outstanding student-athlete during her time as a Saint (soccer, basketball, track and cross country), earning numerous awards and accolades.In basketball, Sara was a member of the 2005 team that won the Mississippi Valley Conference 26-1, and went on to win the Class 3A state championship. She also helped lead the Saints to a 3A state semifinal appearance in 2006. Sara was also the recipient of the “Player’s Award” following the 2004-2005 season, the “Kevin F. Sterenchuk Coaches Award” following the 2005-2006 season and still holds the school record for rebounds in a game (17) vs. Cedar Rapids Washington back in 2005.In soccer, Sara was a four-year varsity starter and earned 1st Team Mississippi Valley Conference and 1st Team All-State honors in 2004, 2005 and 2006; and was named to the IGHSAU “Elite” Team in 2006. During Sara’s time as a Saint, the Xavier girls’ soccer team amassed a record of 67-15 and captured state championships in 2004 and 2006; were state runners-up in 2005, and MVC champions in 2005 and 2006. Additionally, Sara was named the “Gatorade Player of the Year” in 2005 and 2006.In track, Sara was a member of the 2003 4x800 relay team that placed second at the Drake Relays and at the state meet. In cross country, Sara was a member of the Class 3A state championship team and finished 15th overall. She was named the “Female Prep Athlete of the Year” by the Cedar Rapids Gazette in 2006.Sara earned a four-year scholarship to the University of Minnesota where she was a four-year letter winner on the Gopher women’s soccer team and was named to the Academic All-Big Ten Team during her sophomore, junior & seniors year. Clancy earned her B.A. and M.A. in Education from Minnesota and is currently a 5th Grade teacher at Highwood Hills Elementary School in St. Paul, MN.
