Michael Kane graduated from LaSalle High School in 1988. His major activities at LaSalle included football, wrestling and baseball. In football, Mike was named 1st team All-State in 1987 and was MVP the same year. He was state runner-up in wrestling in 1987 and in 1998, he took third place and was named wrestling MVW. Mike earned a BA in History Education from the University of Northern Iowa in 1995. At LaSalle, Mike was an assistant wrestling coach from 1992-1996 and an assistant football coach from 1995-1997. Mike also served as an assistant coach for the Xavier football and wrestling programs. Mike the moved on to become an 8th grade history teacher at Taft Middle School in Cedar Rapids. He is also a football and wrestling coach at Taft and assistant wrestling coach at Jefferson High School.
