Duane received a Bachelor of Arts in 1965 from Buena Vista College, a Master of Science in Education in 1969 from Drake Univ., plus 18 graduate hours in School Administration at the Univ. of lowa. He was very active in LaSalle programs teaching, coaching, and counseling as a booster from 1968-1976. He also took on the responsibility of Assistant Principal and Athletic Director. As Head Boys’ Varsity Basketball Coach, Duane amassed a record of 101 wins, 59 losses, 2 East Central lowa Conference Championships, and went to the State Tournament in 1975. After leaving LaSalle, Duane went to Marion High School as Associate Principal from 1976-1977. He then moved on to Cedar Rapids Community Schools Administrative Assistant/Athletics and Washington High School Associate Principal/Activities. Duane has received many awards over the years including: 1975 Metro Coach of the Year, 1975 N.E. lowa Basketball Coach of the Year, 1980-81 President of the lowa High School Athletic Directors' Association, 1982 N.E. District Athletic Director of the Year, and 1982 State Athletic Director of the Year.
