BJ (Robert) Krivanek graduated from LaSalle in 1971. While attending LaSalle, he was involved in Glee Club, Yearbook Staff, and National Honor Society. His awards included the Mathematics Award, Top Ten Graduate, and ISU Merit Scholarship. He graduated with Distinction from ISU in 1975 with a BA degree in Applied Art. He earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in Design from the U of IL in 1980.BJ is a widely recognized designer, educator, and public artist, dividing his time between Los Angeles and Chicago. Since 1983 he has served as principal and design director of BJ Krivanek Art+Design, Los Angeles/Chicago. He joined the faculty of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1995 as associate professor of visual communication, and has been a member of the faculties at CA Institute of the Arts, the UCLA Extension Arts Program, the Otis College of Art & Design and Loyola Marymount U. BJ is also founding artistic director and current Executive Artistic Director of Community Architects, Chicago. His firm's work has been noted in many international design publications, and he has been awarded numerous grants in support of his work. BJ has been honored many times by the ID Annual Design Review, the American Center for Design, the American Institute of Graphic Arts, the Art Directors Club of Los Angeles, the Society for Environment Graphic Design, and the Art Directors Club of New York, recipient of the Gold Medal in 1996.
