John Krumbholz was the type of athlete who was not blessed with outstanding natural ability, but through hard work achieved much success. He was a three year letterman in football and baseball, and won letters in wrestling for the two years he participated. He was captain of all three sports his senior year, and was voted "Most Valuable Wrestler." Besides athletics, John participated in the Boys' Glee Club, NHS, and Student Government at LaSalle. Between obtaining his B.A. from Coe College in 1974, and M.A. in elementary administration from the University of lowa in 1982, John taught in the Mount Vernon School system and began a continuing involvement with the Special Olympics. In 1986, he became principal of St. Patrick's Elementary School in Cedar Rapids. His relentless enthusiasm and hard work has virtually brought St. Patrick's School back into the mainstream of modern Catholic education. As an inner-city parish, St. Patrick's faces more difficult challenges than most other schools. John has spearheaded almost all of the modernization projects at the school. He has single-handedly rekindled school pride and established a firm, positive outlook for the future. City wide, he is recognized as a dedicated, hard working administrator. John and his wife, Mary, have three children, Anthony, Nicholas, and Cassie.
