Mik Pietrzak has a long and varied resume. After graduating from LaSalle, Mik earned a BS in Zoology from Iowa State University followed by a medical degree from the University of Iowa. He performed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Georgetown/George Washington Universities with an internship at the Malcolm Grow United States Air Force Medical Center. He is also certified through the Professional Academy of Health Management and the Primary School of Aerospace Medicine.Mik spent a large portion of his career practicing and teaching in the fields of Emergency Medicine and Flight Medicine, both for the US military and in private practice. His work took him from the Pentagon to military medical installations around the world, serving as medical support physician for over 40 overseas diplomatic missions. He has been honored for his service, knowledge and expertise with numerous awards and special recognition including: Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious, Defense Commendation Medal and Air Force Commendation Medals from the military. In addition, he has been recognized as a Fellow by the American College of Emergency Physicians; received the Sikorsy Award for Life Saving Mission in Air Evacuation; was the First Recipient of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Military Medical Excellence award presented by General Colin Powell; the First Recipient of Special Recognition Award for Outstanding Support Counter Narcotics Tactical Operations Medical Support; selected as Physician of the US Bipartisan Commission on Central American by Henry Kissinger, nominated for White House/Presidential Physician; and served as Primary Flight Surgeon to the Secretary of Defense Casper Wienberger.Mik currently serves as the Principal of Knowledge Management Solutions serving as a consultant for a number of international organizations in the areas of medical facility design and threat mitigation. He has presented at more than 50 academic conferences around the world and has been published in numerous medical books and journals.
