John is a member of Regis High School’s first graduating class in 1959 and attended Immaculate Conception prior to Regis’ opening. John was a four-year letterwinner in baseball and basketball. As a baseball pitcher, he led the city in strikeouts for two years. In basketball, John led the city in scoring in his junior and senior years, was named First Team All-City for those seasons and 5th Team All-State as a senior. He also scored over 1,000 points in his three-year career.Academically, John graduated with honors, he was class president as a sophomore and junior, and served as President of the Northeast Iowa Association of Student Councils. John went on to Loras College, where he earned seven sports letters, was junior and senior-class president, graduated magna cum laude and earned the Chicago Club “Student-Athlete of the Year Award,” in 1963. He attended graduate school at Washington University in St. Louis, earning his MBA and DBA degrees. John taught at St. Louis University and was a long-time faculty member at the University of South Carolina College of Business Administration until he retired as Distinguished Professor Emeritus in 2005.A long-time supporter of Regis and Xavier High Schools, John assisted in the coordination of Class of 1959 annual reunions for more than a decade and led the effort for the establishment of the Regis Class of 1959 Endowed Scholarship for the Xavier Foundation in 2014. John and his wife Sheri have 11 grandchildren and divide their time between South Carolina and Brooklyn Park, MN.
