2005 Once On This Island - 2005

With more vocal appearances than previous musicals performed at Xavier, Once On This Island proved to be a sensational sell-out.
Once On This Island was performed from November 11-13, as a Caribbean interpretation of The Little Mermaid.
This heart-warming tale, told by the people on this island, is based on a peasant girl named Ti Moune, played by senior Christin Tomy. She falls in love with a boy she rescues from an accident named Daniel, played by senior Ryan Deignan.
"This musical was very involved both chorally and with choreography, so every person had to be at every practice," senior Matt Callanan said. "It was amazing to see all the people, regardless of age, come together and just become very close."
After Daniel returns to his home, Ti Moune sets off on a voyage to find him, but is faced with social differences that are keeping them apart. All these events are controlled by the four gods of the island, played by sohpomore Steve Goedken, and seniors Matt Callanan, Tera Edmunds, and Laura Fuller.
"It was great having so many actors involved," senior Danny Mulka said. "There was also a lot of singing and dancing this year too."
The overall vivid performance showcased talents from many different students, including six elementary students from area catholic schools.
"The communal atmosphere was amazing and we performed the show from our hearts," Callanan said. "I think it gave the performances a new element."
