2008 Barefoot in the Park - 2008

The Xavier Players started off a successful year with their first production, Barefoot in the Park, directed by Mike Cervantes. Barefoot told the story of newlyweds, Paul and Corie Bratter, and their adjustment to married life in their new apartment in New York City.
Junior Paul Esker played the part of Paul Bratter, a conservative lawyer who had a hard time letting loose with his new wife, Corie, played by junior Marissa Satern. Unlike Paul, Corie was free-spirited, optimistic and excited about the new marriage.
The play climaxed at a dinner with Corie's mother, played by senior Marie Sorenson, and their crazy neighbor Victor, played by junior Pat Fagen. At this point, with the help of a couple drinks, Paul finally loosened up, and his marriage to Corie was saved.
Opening night was September 11, which gave the Players a little over a month to pull everything together. "It was tough learning all our lines over the summer," Satern said, "but we all worked really hard and had fun at the extra practices."
Due to all the extra time required to put the play together, the cast became very close, and even the crew backstage became involved. "We began to learn other people's lines, and we would quote them to each other and put on a performance for ourselves backstage," senior stage manager Sam Schloss said
The cast agreed that in this case, actions speak louder then words "Freshman Kyle Tietz had the most important role in the play," Esker said. "He didn't have any lines, but his
part was hilarious, and he played his part so well."
