Caroline Cavanaugh began teaching in 1958, serving schools in California , Washington , Illinois , and Bettendorf , before coming to Regis High School in 1983. Her career continued at Xavier High School from 1999 until her retirement in 2006. Throughout her teaching career at Regis and Xavier, Mrs. Cavanaugh was instrumental in helping students increase their reading skills. Whether top students wanted to sharpen their skills, or struggling students needed extra help to be successful, Mrs. Cavanaugh brought out the best in each of her students. The work done by Mrs. Cavanaugh has helped keep the standardized reading scores of Regis and Xavier students as some of the highest in the nation. She was also instrumental in developing a resource program at Regis to assist students who needed academic support, that program is the same model used at Xavier today.
